Guild warships? - QuorTek - 01-30-2010 NightFire Wrote:The ones EA aren't pulling are the ones LA are pulling to boot. And LA got more power than they actually show... some even say that LA is behind the NGE and enforced sony to do it... and rush it out being impatient in a dumb way thinking that the players playing the game would be around for the fixes which took 2 years to finally fix again to get members back... if they had driven the PRE-NGE way still today and spend the time adding the content there is in swg now as well as 2 years of lost content development then SWG still would be a nice game to play for all.. Guild warships? - kateria - 01-31-2010 Can we just kill the polls an let the devs finish the game so it actually does get released in 2011 .... All these polls watch the game be a 2017 release date . Guild warships? - Meparch - 01-31-2010 The SOE developers rarely, if ever, looked at the forums or played the actual game. Now the bioware devs probably do a lot of play testing but it is doubtful many look at the forums. So I wouldn't worry about all these polls having any impact on the game. Guild warships? - kateria - 02-01-2010 Prolly right arch , on the off chance da fish is wrong ... I shudder to think what state of suckage tor will end up at . There's alot of really dumb polls an even more retarded suggestions on the tor forums . It's worse then the wow forums where you wasted a couple hours of your life reading wow forums ... When I read the tor forums I feel like I just murdered several usefull brain cells I'll never get back . Guild warships? - QuorTek - 02-01-2010 Been reading the tor forums as well... and I feel a huge pity of some of the suggestions and wondering if there is someone there to even take care of those retarded people that clearly belong in some kind of mental sanitarium. Guild warships? - kateria - 02-01-2010 no need for a special mental institution quor . Those people already have a special seat reseved on the short bus Guild warships? - Starfire - 02-06-2010 I don't know Sabs. I take the delay as a good sign. I'm sure EA would love to push the game out to pad this year's numbers, but apparently someone someplace saw the light of reason. Maybe they are actually looking at the big picture (a rarity in corporate america) instead of the short term bottom line. Guild warships? - Sabriel777 - 02-06-2010 Starfire Wrote:I don't know Sabs. As much as I would love to believe that, and I think TOR is going to be a good game. I still think if anyone is going to screw it up it'll be EA. I am calling them now doing what STO(Cryptic) just did, and that is using bloody micro-transactions to nickel and dime us even though they are charging a monthly fee... They did it with Dragon Age, and I am almost sure they'll do the same with ST:TOR. Unfortunately Bioware is OWNED by EA and is subject to the horrible decisions they'll make all in the name of money. Doesn't mean Bioware won't do a good job, just that it'll likely get rushed out at the end, and/or we're going to get nickel and dimed. Funny enough, given the BS with STO.. there is a game coming out that is free 2 play and it is WAAAAAY better than STO. Granted its Steampunk/fantasy and not sci-fi, but it too has ships and fighting. (astral ships) Allods Online is a very good game, and they are using ONLY the micro-transaction mode. None of this shaking down the player base for their coins, like I feel that Cryptic is doing (and that EA is likely to do again as well) haha. Guild warships? - kateria - 02-06-2010 EA will do it ! Why ? two words really .... CASH ....COW . They be stupid not too . Also fastest way to get a return on the investment . With some the big name actors rumoured to be doing voice work on sw :tor ... those kinds of salery don't come cheap . EA is likely looking to recoup some of that investment quick as possible in event game does end up sucking so they don't take a bath on it . Guild warships? - NightFire - 02-06-2010 All depends on the contract really. Generally, EA only really screws with a game when it is also the publisher of said game. TOR is actually published by LA. On the other hand LA is ALMOST if not as bad as EA Guild warships? - kateria - 02-07-2010 Give it time ... when LA sees they can cash in with micro transactions ... they'll want that share of the pie . WHY?? Cuz lucas an cohorts ARE that dang greedy lol . Guild warships? - QuorTek - 02-08-2010 But honestly... if they get like 5 million subscribers to the game at 15 dollars per sub... would be roughly 75m credits per month. Hell even with just 1million subs it would be a good deal... so why worry about micro trans? The game could bear having a constant developer team + super servers going for like forever as it is.. and keep people happy that way as well. Dunno if I ended with owning a game that would bring me in 75million dollars a month then I would aim for lowering the price for playing if posible and get even more subs that way... imagine a price war between MMO owners haha. Guild warships? - kateria - 02-08-2010 Quor , your missing the really big picture .... take the example you gave of 1 mill subsribers at 15 $ / month ... Now add in an option of free to play , and an ingame store that allows you to buy rare items . Make each planet required to be bought as an adventure zone for free to play people ... Add into the store vauluble items that both free to play and subscription people can both equally buy ... You instanlty triple your player base . AN your still going to make money ... Alot of money . Enough that you have a dev team for updates , a second dev team for bug fixes ( nerfs ) . An everyone BUT the player base all makes money . EA is a bottom line company . I'd be shocked if they didn't take this sort of option . LA is a cash grabbing whore , they'd look at the model an go yup it's workng in other mmo's , we'd be dumb not too. Do I like this model ? Not a fan of it no . I am looking at it with a realistic approach I believe is the future for mmo's . Guild warships? - Meparch - 02-08-2010 Or you can charge 19.99 a month AND charge for stuff in game to make even more cash all the while knowing the SW nuts will pony up. Guild warships? - Starfire - 02-08-2010 At first we would. But clearly Trekkies (or Trekkers) are a far bigger slice of the market than us Star Wars fans. SWG got what 250k at launch? STO is sitting at over a million. I have a hard time believing SWTOR is going to be able to pull that kind of numbers to start. SWG was a bad burn and I don't know how eager everyone will be to jump in again. Quor and Kat are living proof. Still, most of us will be there so who knows. |
