Ugg...

I've had the flu and have hardly eaten anything but I should be playing more this next week - although I'll have to get off sooner because I have to teach high schoolers in the mornings now. Sorry for being MIA!

Ya...bug's been going around. I'm still fighting it myself, Ryna just got over it (which means she'll prolly get it again, then I'll get it from her again...we'll be done by June.) Nasty flu bug this year.

But ::I:: was still online and playing. What's YOUR excuse? :-p

Excuses:

1. Bowing to the porcelain god - or deficating in its mouth.

2. Sleeping with delirium.

3. And the gods of the internet have struck out against me with 1.6k ping and 5% packet loss, so I will have to complain to them.

Which reminds me - stupid ISP WildBlue is satelitte and is giving me the run-around. I ping yahoo.com and get 1500ms on average which is just plain stupid. And to top it all off when I unplug the cable from the modem directly to a computer the connection doesn't work. But as soon as I plug it back into the router it works. I know my computer's NIC card is good, and the settings are generic so any fool could plug it in and it work to any network. So because my computer can't access it they can't help me because if a router is connected they say it may cause problems.

Any advice?

Satellite connections have higher pings as a Rule, No matter what your throughput, the signal still has to go up into orbit, and then back down to the planet.

Even with the signal moving at the speed of Radio waves(the speed of light) this will still cause about a second or 2 of Lag.

1500ms from a sat connection is pretty good actually. Try unplugging your modem then hooking your comp directly to the modem. What I have to do when I switch computers.

Definitely make sure when switching from a router to direct connection to unplug the power to the modem so it resets. My cable provider detects whether or not you have a router when it powers up the modem after you physically unplug the power. If you don't unplug it, it won't work when going from router to direct connection and vice versa.

Quite possible satellite works similarly.

That said, Mep's right 1500 ms isn't that bad for satellite really.

He lives! Sad to hear it is the flu. Hope you feel better.

I was hoping you had met some sassy lass, and were ... well ... otherwise occupied. Heh, heh.

Nifi - thanks for the help on the modem/router idea, haven't tried it yet but sounds like it might work.
