I see the fleet still stands...

Im not in it for the money, so it all works out ok for me. ILM will be around for a while. Ive worked at 2 of the top 4/5 studios and ILM's work is lightyears ahead. Its just a matter of, how much will they keep in the US in the years to come.

Empire at War wasnt bad really... the only serious lack to the space combat was its lack of a third dimension. Homeworld was better at that, although no where close to a true 3d environment. Like I said before, some of the mods for EoW make it much better. When you removed the ship limit and make much larger maps, and have ships that act more like they should, its really fun.

Check this mod out... I think its been in production since the dawn of time, but if it comes back, Im definitely playing it.

Enders Game remains my fav book of all time. Its a badass read if you dont know how it ends. I never read any of the following books, except the ones about Bean and his point of view through the battle school.

Yeah, I'd say even after you know the end, it's worth reading again.

Wow, I didn't realize ILM outsourced. Wasn't this all created by the same George Lucas that made American Graffiti and Tucker: The Man and His Dream -- films that celebrated the American Dream and the American Experience?

Confused6:

I hope you make it Ghent, preferably somewhere close to home if it can be managed.

Also, I deactivated my Facebook account last March (didn't de-friend anyone).

Slowly building up that IMDB. Smile Not exactly the worlds greatest projects... but it pays the bills.

Heya Starfire. Smile You suck. It took me about an hour to figure out your name to put into the random question to register on here Smile I had to go through every name I could find on the boards.

Ive been good. Retired from leading stuff, semi retired from gaming. Work comes first.. then play games to fill the time. SWG (and the prequels) sucked all the Star Wars enjoyment out of me and its been hard to recover.. although im started to get a bit excited for Old Republic. Tired of wow and I want something better. Although I only play that because im still overpowered.

Good times.

Nice to see you guys keeping the torch lit here. Its a bit impressive.

You went through every name? LOL. That's pretty funny, but we appreciate the dedication.

Yup, we are still kicking. Almost 13 years now I think.

Glad to hear you are doing well. I'll have to check out that page when I'm not at work.

Lighting TD is what I do. I place lights, make whatever it is in the scene look good and as real as possible, create all the render layers and hand it off to the compositor who polishes it up. I can do compositing as well, but Lighting is where I have most experience at.

got to give you props lighting a scene can be a real challenge multiple light sources and getting your shadows right what a headache I've messed with lighting myself when I went to AI I mostly did compositing though was always alot easier for me BTW what programs are they using now it's been awhile since I've done that type of work and I always used Combustion I'm sure by now something better has come along I hope

Maya is the package of choice nowadays, with a lot of smaller companies and comercials using XSI or 3DMax. Larger studios tend to have their own proprietary software.

For compositing... Nuke is the best one. Shake is still used all over, but its no longer being developed so it will slowly be phased out. And again, lot of companies just make their own proprietary stuff.

But Maya/Nuke is the best two now.

I'm not surprised you mentioned Maya I always just did basic modeling in it then imported my meshes into either Form Z or Mudbox to detail my work as for compositing I'll definitely have to give nuke a shot it has to be better than Combustion as for the proprietary software I know ILM and weta digital are well know culprits I'm actually surprised weta digital let Mudbox out of the box for commercial use

We are just too stuborn to die. It not like having old, crappy games to play ever stopped us before, lol.
