Star, asked me what's up in another thread and rather than hijack it I thought I'd post up here.

Not much and a heckuva lot.

The kids are gettin big. Elizabeth is eight and singing in her first Christmas concert at church tomorrow. Ian is four and is an even bigger SW nut than I was when I saw it as a kid!

But I overtrained and have injuries in both shoulders now. Dunno when I'll be back at that.

So in the meantime I am looking into doing some father and son geekdom like putting together some Jedi and Clone outfits for Ian and I and maybe playing around with the Rebel Legion guys. As always I still play all the old games around the office with the exception of classic JK since I lost those disks.
Not enough free time to do SWG or EVE, but I do play DDO and Guild Wars from time to time.

Euro fight styles medieval time and up was interesting as well... saying that as an euro, but much much more finesse in the asian arts.

Anyhow both sides have there special charm though.

Watching some of the templar styles from the crusade time back then was interesting though and rather usefull actually, alongside with traditional moves... aw the love for ways of fighting.

Lol, as a practioner of the Eastern arts from 1980-2000 I would strongly disagree.

We don't really have any information on fighting styles in Europe earlier than the I.33 manuscript from 1300.

I am a Viking, actually Danish here and I have to disagree... but I guess it what made the Brittains adn Normandy and whatever location in europe descripe the Viking Battle axe with fear..

Now we speak of fight styles... The romans had different fight styles to train there legionaires.. and such, so don't actually call it predated...

Most Likely they adopted alot of the ways from the Greeks... Phalanx warriors... and the likes as well as chariots and more.

If there would be no strategy behind using the weapons of teh different eras tehn they could just roam around hitting people with poorly made pointy sticks.

I agree though that the Asian ways are way more exotic though, but you have to look at a huge country like China.. alot of different styles for then finally put together to something usefull... as well as the Japanese art forms and the invention of the Katana back then was awesome engineering as well as many lords constantly battling each other for sure set the development of tactics and strategies as well as ways to fight into the main topic.

Not sure how advanced the Germans where around the year 700 to 1000, but I know that the Scandinavians used chainmalls, helmets.. advanced weaponry made out of iron/steel and by those ways taught themself to fight... it is not like they all run out from tavern and smacking people around with beer mugs... you know there has to be something more attached to it

I assume that teh Northern ways was inherited from down south.. Greece/Roman empire and such.

Now we speak of it we could also go back to Egypt, also there the warriors had to learn in how to use there blades so they would not hurt there comrades once in battle... so neither region of the ancient/old world was only pure savages, another view on the world though compared to today of course.. but that would count anywhere in the ancient world.
