If Win XP didn't install the network drivers for your wireless card OR your networking card (looks like a larger phone jack) then you will have to turn it off and open it up to see what the product is you need drivers for.

My first question usually is: Is it plugged in?

Plug the little phone looking like cable that comes out of your modem into the slot in the thinkpad that it will fit in. Kill the power to the cable modem and the computer. Replug in the cable modem, give it a good 2 -3 minutes to boot up, then turn on the computer.

Unplug the cable modem and router. Reboot them by first allowing the cable modem to fully reboot, then plug in the router, then finally start the lap top.

step 5: delete Windows XP partition

or

If you have a wireless network, you must first run the Set Up a Wireless Router or Access Point wizard on at least one computer on your network before following these steps.

  1. Log on to the computer as an administrator.
  2. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Computer Name tab, and then click Change.
  4. If the workgroup name is not WORKGROUP, change the name to WORKGROUP, and then click OK. Otherwise, click Cancel to close the Computer Name Changes dialog box.
    Note

If you have to change the workgroup name, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Restart the computer, and then continue with the steps below.

  5. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet

  6. Connections, and then click Network Connections.
  7. Click the wireless network connection icon, and then, under Network Tasks, click View available wireless networks.
  8. Choose the wireless network from the list that appears, and then click Connect.
