World of Darkness Online?

#1
So, according to this interesting document I found shamelessly lurking on the Eve Online forums, it looks like we should be expecting WoDO by 2010. Of course, this document is dated July '08, months before CCP focused on Eve Online, as stated by its CEO during last november Fanfest, so I think we should take into account a few months of delay, making the final release date around early 2011, but, hell, I can be wrong. Anyway, Word of God says WoD will be launched in 2010. I guess we should make a party or something!

Now, please, go to page 13, near the end. I know, they might be only explaining the P&P setting, but they might as well be explaing the MMO one. Vampires, werewolves and mages? And it looks like we won't be able to play as humans. Ok, now I'm maybe reading too much into it.

On page 24 states the following "CCP is currently working on new projects, the largest of which is World of Darkness, a MMOG that is scheduled to launch 2010."; EDIT: Also I can confirm this is not 'leaked' simply a public document by CCP.

Now it looks like i'll be playing two MMO's now, Bioware's Starwars: The Old Republic and now World of Darkness online based off white-wolf's table top game.

They have a game that features vampires and mages and werewolves as the main player classes? Tongue

The World of Darkness is the vampire and Werewolf etc version of D&D, it's a table top game based from White-Wolf's & creator Mark Rein Hagen's RPG called Vampire: The Masquerade which ended in 2004 and White-Wolf had revamped the entire franchise with Vampire: The Requiem, so it should be interesting to see a Vampire vs Werewolf MMO.

Yes I know... but what would make it different from all the other MMOs... only unique MMO out there now a day is Eve Online... Ihave to admit that... but I am not sure it would be a game for you cillian...

Same gameplay just being vampire or wherewolf... why bother? Tongue

well SWG for Emo Kids... and This MMO here for the goth people... WoW for the raid lovers... Even the new Tor looks trivial and boring.. but not going to judge anything upright just now.

What are we doing.. playing the sims or something?

I feel betrayed by the game developers out there to be honest, why not make the game that would be this complex and be having these many 1000 options for customizing that would make a game actually fun to play?

Would be nice if you could have a wicked complex game where you could go underwater in vessels.. be on land.. head into atmospheric air.. and finally hit space... with tonnes of content in each field and each field requireing one being a specialist in operating the tools, with maybe the common factor of everyone could do some stuff on ground... but not everything.

Do you have any idea what the production cost and development time for a game containing all that would be Q? It would be insane, which is why no company has done it. The cost for creating MMOs is going up exponentially, and with investors being extremely skittish lately with the economic climate, its highly unlikely we'll see anything that complex any time soon. Stick to Single Players if you want that. Even with most of the MMOs coming out not breaking the mold as it were, most of them still have something to recommend them. Simple games, if you can call them that are the ones that appeal to the majority. Look at WoW... that game has over 200 servers and almost everyone is at least medium population. You as a gamer are in the minority, and the minority doesn't pay the bills.

As for WoD MMo, I think it could be rather cool, as its a genre that hasn't been touched upon really for an MMO, other than the debacle that was Hellgate:London. They have a really good established IP to run with, and a ready made player base with all the LARP'ers out there. So all in all I think its a good idea. Might not be my cup of tea once it comes out, but if it looks any good, I'll definitely sign up for beta and possibly try it when it comes out if I don't make beta.

That's because it is lol even though the old world of darkness ended in 2004, this WOD MMO will mostly likely be based off the new world of darkness featuring Vampire: The Requiem and Werewolf: the Forsaken etc!

Just hungering for something new and in a more complex way as it is.. for now Eve Online would do... it has a rabid reality in touch with everything as well as some fiction and fun (and prolly is the most complex MMO currently).
