WWIIol was really fun, but the graphics suck and it's hard to get 'in' to any of the groups now.

It would be like if you combined JK, with XvT all overseen by Rebellion.
You could land on planets, board cap ships take ground and hold it or lose it, and most of all WIN.

THAT is what I was hoping for with SWG.

And that's what our ideal game is. JK on the ground, XvT in the skies, held together by an overall strategic story arc. Lets be honest, SWG was pretty damn close for a couple of years. I know the story was semi-weak, but eh. At the end of the day, WWII seems to be a battle only scenario. It's a game. SWG was a simulation. It was a social interaction within the confines of a game. That's why our Wookiees could dance, and that's also why it was so great AND what led to its downfall. Personally, if the NGE came about with substantial advance warning and good PR moves to convince the playerbase why it was a good thing, instead of forcing it down our throats, I think we'd all still be playing regularly. I know SWGEMU never really got off the ground, but the reason such a thing even existed was due to the community, not the gameplay. We all loved that game, all of us who played regularly at least. And you can say that Jedi killed it, that grinding killed it, that overuse of the nerf bat killed it, that the CURB killed it, that the NGE killed it. At the end of the day, the subscribers killed it.

I think no matter what TOR is, it will be a social interaction amongst people who at the very least have a passing interest in Star Wars, something that has held this group together since...what, 1996? Think about that. I've been a Saber for twice as long as I've KNOWN my wife, much less been married, and yeah, lets bring up that I met her through here :-p We played SWG for the people, and that's why we continued to play any other game, be it Guild Wars, EVE, Evercrack, WOW, or any other game that we've played for any amount of time, but still played under the SBR banner. Mandy's said it more than a few times. She doesn't give a hoot what we play, as long as we're playing it with this group. Can't agree more, and that's why I'm excited about TOR. Can anyone honestly say that even if reviews suck, if the beta reveals more holes than my old car's exhaust pipe, or if the space game INITIALLY is Rebel Assault III that you're not going to buy it? I can't.

Twofold.

One - Many are waiting for TOR. Pay-for-play in a game that may not be on our collective radar in a few months doesn't appeal.

Two - Personally, this summer I've built a deck, studied for and obtained my Series 7, 66 and soon to be Health Ins producer licenses, have to fix the pool before Chicago inevitably resembles Greenland in a couple months, and am starting a new job. My plate's full. Hell, I can barely keep up with fking Farmville, forget an MMO :-p

This all having been said, the reason I'll now and again hop on to Guild Wars is that it's NOT pay for play. I can putz for 2-3 hours, be content, move on and not feel like I HAVE to play this or I'm not getting my money's worth.

The problem is too many happially single guys have rub the fact they were married into non-married peoples faces far too many times, some times weeks before their marriage blew up on them, for anyone to take that shit seriously.

If I made a comment in jest that was offensive due to an insensitivity caused by my ignorance, I am most sorry.

What I meant was this: Our priorities are indeed different from a single person.

I believe what Scythe and I are getting at is that we value our marriages so much that to maintain our professional goals, our homes, and our relationships with our spouses we have to cut out our personal, solo game time to a minimum that makes it near impossible to justify paying monthly to play a game you may only get time in once every two weeks to hop on for longer than an hour to do something other than mine. It isn't because we don't like you guys and don't want to play with you - quite the contrary. We aren't ignoring you peeps by forgetting the forums, or saying we won't play games with you altogether. But by marrying our lovely wives and committing our lives to them, we have also committed the first of our time to them. The first of our time and energy in a difficult world to make our marriages go beyond the status quo.

Hey, I feel like I'm expected to play EVE. I've committed to saying that "yes, I'm gonna do this" on a few different occasions. Then I found out that I had to take the Series 7, then I found out that I have to build a deck, etc. etc. etc. I feel like I should be playing EVE with y'all, really I do. I'm not saying that you don't have the right to push me to play EVE just like I push people to play TOR.

Sonic, dude, you were one of the last holdouts for SWG too as I recall, so of course I'm gonna try to win you over :-p At the end of the day, as we "grow up" (ha! Scythe talking about growing up. Hilarity) Anyway, as we grow up priorities change, it's that simple. What's more important to me now is playing something with my friends and family. Why did I stop playing GW as hardcore as I was? Mandy wasn't playing, neither were any of y'all, and even the new group I joined with there stopped playing for the most part. It's all about the people to me, and I'm going to keep saying that, but everyone's priorities are different.

Specific to EVE, there is another objection that I have and it's the same reason that I think that so many of us stopped playing GW. You guys are light years ahead of where I would be right now. You would be effectively running me up to speed, skipping a lot of the preliminary stuff so I could be at the same level, and don't get me wrong, I would appreciate the effort. However, many of us felt rushed through GW just to get to the point where we could all play at the same level. You didn't learn the game, you just learned the established strategies that work...until the next update. Then you have to wait for everyone to explain what changed, why it changed and how to get around it. Don't want that same scenario, especially for a game that I might only be playing for 3-6 months.
