If you look at what SWG pulled in as a percent of the MMO market at that time, it was quite large. STO pulled in a small percentage of the current MMO which has growth a hell of a lot since SWG lunch. TOR will easially best STO.

I am not sure, but isn't lauch more than just the first week? I believe that the first month or first quarter would be a better estimation than week 1 of release... also, week 1 isn't over til tomorrow. The market has significantly changed since SWG launched as well...
As to wether TOR will beat STO or not, lets wait til it comes out before we compare it.... otherwise Duke Nukem Forever beats all FPSes out there

I have a hard time believing SWTOR is going to be able to pull that kind of numbers to start. SWG was a bad burn and I don't know how eager everyone will be to jump in again. Quor and Kat are living proof. Still, most of us will be there so who knows.
There are two issues to consider here.
First of all, if you scrutinize their press release, the key sentence is "Already, over 1 million Star Trek fans have created accounts at the official websites."
As I understand it, this does NOT mean 1 million people bought a copy. It means one million people decided to create an account (not unlike creating an account on sabercult.com ) . How many of them created a free account prior to the release day or even the head start program? How many copies were sold? (Including hard copies and Steam) I have not seen the answers to those particular questions.
Second, SWG was released 7 years ago. Pre-WOW, and so we assume that since then, more people have computers, and more people are in the computer gaming market.
That said, I'm sure TOR will do great, unless EA drops the ball by rushing the game.

That would be LA that would be rushing the game if any... think they are the publishers.
When has LA been behind any good game by the way that was not bugged... or watered out 1-2 years after or less time?

Late 1990s or earlier.

actually Star, it isn't 1 million STO subscribers, its actually 1 million "CRYPTIC" accounts... aka it includes all those who made accounts for Champions Online as well... More than a little deceptive on Cryptics part imo... But considering STO was made entirely in 2 years, its not a terrible game... just not for me. Syn and I will still most likely be there to try out SW:TOR.. assuming we have any time at all for game by that point lol....
side note... I can't believe my baby is almost 1 years old!!!! *cries* Oh and she totally lives up to the Sab's name *grins*

I didn't mean to sound that negative. Sorry if it came off that way. So they are playing the numbers trick eh? That's rotten. Don't get me wrong, I think SWTOR is going to post some big numbers. I just hope it keeps that way. I fear another NGE.

None offense meant or anything bro... but how would you like to have capships to work out in a full control 3D space enviroment other than the way they do it in EvE which is click based?
Am against Capships in starwars games because it would seem unrealistic having them... a stardestroyer take a crew of 1000s of people to operate.. I would really feel let down if it is just one pilot controlling it in a figure of speech... can better rely to more light vessels as it is due to that they take maybe 1 to 8 people or the likes to operate, also those feel more starwarsy to fly around in.

I like the gun boats in SWG and that seems very doable for this game.
Not, Eve does have huge ass battles envolving a lot of people. 1000s on one ship, will no, nor do you need so many for a game. You don't need cooks, or cleaners or fixers or techs on such a ship. Just a pilot, nav, and gunners, and maybe one dude running around fixing stuff.
So a cap ship could get by with 20 people and still be very real. It is possible but I doubt bioware will pull it off.

If the case mep we would need a group of 100 people to be with us to support the ships the starwars way.. a cap ship needs fighters and gunboats as support to be efficient, as well as it would require a huge dedication to the space game... I recon that currently we would barely be able to have 1 cap ship going knowing that alot of the people that is going to be playing mainly is groundpounders we would need to start recruiting people for both if the case.
