Time to Pay Up, A Lot.....

#1
So as typical, people who preorder get to play first. Preorders of standard edition get to start 3 days early and the collectors ed. gets you 6 days early.
[Image: star-wars-the-old-republic-box-art-and-c...leaked.jpg]

Collectors ed runs at 150 euros, roughly $220 US, though US pricing hasn't been released. I would expect around $150-$200. There are a few things one gets for $200 for a game you get to pay a monthly fee for.

* Exclusive Gentle Giant Darth Malgus statue
* Star Wars: The Old Republic game discs in collectible metal case
* The Journal of Master Gnost-Dural annotated by Satele Shan
* Old Republic galaxy map
* Custom Security Authentication Key (i.e. Authenticator)
* Exclusive Music of Star Wars: The Old Republic CD
* High-Quality Collector's Edition Box
* Flare Gun: Fire flares into the air
* Training Droid: Hovers at your side for combat assistance
* HoloDancer: Project your own holographic dancer
* HoloCam: Keep visual records of in-game adventures
* STAP: Sleek and unique in-game vehicle
* Exclusive Mouse Droid: Spun-ky droid to join your adventures
* Exclusive Collector's Edition Store: Unique in-game vendor with a dynamic assortment of items
* A hand job at the Bunny Ranch. (at least it better for $200)

They are saying it goes on sale on July 21th, so we may get a release date soon, probably at Comic Con.

Chen'ya is not currently employed at the Bunny Ranch, just throwing that out there before anyone asks...

All of us are thinking "omg, that's too expensive, I don't need that." But that annoying little prick of an inner child/voice/monologue is going "OMG I NEED IT 6 EXTRA DAYS BEFORE ANYONE ELSE OMGROFLLOLZ0RZ!!!1111one1two" Really, the three extra days (projected) before the other preorders are just going to be for brags and giggles, and you'll be able to get this about a year from now for when we want to buy second accounts for like $20 on ebay since what we really want is the nifty stuff. Even Collectors Editions for WoW are $70 at launch, this is a bit beyond obscene. However, I can definitely see myself paying $70-$90 for that. $150+ is steep.

I will note though that when I resold a couple of WoW Collector's editions at their launches (bought for $70, went for $200+) that a lot of the people buying from me were overseas, and they cited either later availability or higher price. Entirely possible this will be cheaper come launch or in the US.

Along the same lines, if you DO want this, make sure you track Fatwallet or Slickdeals to see when preorders go live on various websites. The last WoW expansion CE sold out of preorders on bestbuy.com in about 11 minutes, and it was a soft post (unannounced.) I'm sure I'll be doing this, so I can send a text blast if people would like. Posting here, by the time you see it, yeah, sold out.

This brings up ANOTHER question as to if you preorder online (who the hell goes to a B&M store these days?) when will they ship? Will stated release and launch dates be different? Would totally suck if I paid for the extra 6 days and didn't get the game until launch day. I would want to make sure I know what day the game will SHIP, not launch or release. Amazon usually does a good job of this, but who knows.

This factor really should kill off any resellers since even if the reseller gets the game on launch minus 6, turns around, ships it out same day overnight (not likely if they get it at 4pm or work) then the recipient would likely not get it before launch - 3, but people do stupid things when it's only fake money on a credit card and the big shiny is unavailable anywhere (exhibit A: Tickle Me Elmo, exhibit B: TMX.)

After typing this whole thing, if it's under $100 I'll prolly preorder one collector's edition and one normal. If the ebay price gets obscene, I'll sell the CE and preorder another normal and put on the ebay listing in big shiny letters not responsible for shipping policies of my source. I'll feel bad until the PayPal payment clears.

Sorry for jabbering, that was pretty much a stream of consciousness. It's late, I don't like editing this late.

Confusedcy:

edit:: Side note: related - anyone else find it weird that with launch inside of 6 months likely that Amazon doesn't even have a product holder page for it? They've had a GW2 page for the last 6 months with a price and no release date. Not even likely to be the final cover art. Maybe it's me.

edited edit:: Ok, found it on amazon by googling SWTOR amazon, but it's not searchable from within Amazon as best I can tell. Maybe glitching. OR maybe they're prepping for the rumored pre-order this week? Hell, preorder the collector's edition, then cancel later if you change your mind. No billing until it ships!

Not sure if I buy into that this is actually legit yet. That picture towards the bottom seems a little bit off. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

If true though:
If it costs 150 euro, it'll probably cost $150 American. Europeans almost always get screwed like that.

Edit: Also of note is the fact that this was leaked from a Polish site... Poland as far as I know doesn't use the euro so the price they're quoting is probably messed up.

well I can debunk this ... that is total farce .... Nothing on our local stores have even got wind of availablity for pre orders in the UK . an If it was availble the stores here know of it 3 months in advance . an beteen july to september they have Nadda , zip zero for anything for tor ... it's the number one popular asked gamming question along with battlefield 3 .

so take that for whatever . an everything I've gotten from bioware is there won't be any early play time windows for pre orders . The pre orders " May " contain the full sound track for the game as a bonus along with a sweet art book . ala age of conan style . but that's it . game is looking to be released around 55USD , with a monthly sub of around 15 USD / month . so collectors editions you could figure prolly 85 to 100 USd .

Just a few points.

Poland is an EU member.
It is typical for preorders to get in the door a few days early. This is called a soft launch and is munch better than doing a hard and crashed launch. I would be surprised if they didn't allow early access for beta testers/pre-orders.
The CE pic looks legit to me. Comic Con is this weekend, so an announcement may be made there about release date and the pre-order editions. This game may still not come out until Dec 16th and may not be available for pre-order in stores until Sept.
Nothing says the CE is limited ed., so they may just make them available for sale in sept and keep printing them out as needed to fulfill demand. The is EA/LA and they love money too much not to keep spitting these out until they get all the money they can.
Amazon will ship the day before it is released so overnight shipments arrive on time the day of release. This is typical of Amazon.

They might be part of the EU, but they don't use the euro as currency.

Why would anyone do a news story and use pollock dollars? I don't see that as a sticking point.

It's $175 US, no idea how much that is in pollock money.

The Polish site supposedly cited the amount in Polish currency, I just looked at the google cached link and this is true. And the Polish currency doesn't come out anywhere near 150 euros when you convert it.

And all these sites are coming up with different numbers off of it. IGN says $175 American, whereas the original post states that the US price hasn't been set yet, etc.

The $175.00 comes form a spanish retailer, they too don't use US dollars, so it may be some currency translation going on, but I expect the price to be quite high, as in you are buying it off ebay high when you are in fact just getting it off amazon. I'm guess $149.99 just cause they can and an offical release date of Nov 1st so preorders start last week in oct, one week after SWG goes free to play. Maybe this Origin site starts downloads on Oct 31st.

Poland is a member of the EU but still uses its own currency, the zloty. Their economic status is very much the same as the UK. Noteworthy is that Poland was one of the few nations who did NOT suffer a major economic decline in the global recession of 2008-current, indeed they are pretty much the only former Soviet Bloc nation to effectively succeed in the post Cold War era, not counting East Germany there.

Arch, my concern with Amazon, despite knowing that they're most likely to get it right, is that it'll be there for launch, not for the 6 day early period. Meh.

Amazon may not have the preorder SUKs at all. Seems EA's Origins will be selling these and it may be a digital download before the box ships. Not sure if Amazon's CE will be shipped early or not.

Not faked Star. Gamestop shot their load a bit early too.
